The course is designed to take professionals new to the practice of airtightness testing and make them competent in basic tests for houses and simple structures. It will also provide in-depth material on the finer techniques of testing.
ATTMA Level 1 Airtightness Testers are qualified to carry out testing on simple structures up to 4,000 m3 requiring only one fan. Common examples include houses, apartments, and single-zone commercial buildings.

Pro Clima New Zealand Ltd is an ATTMA Approved Training Provider.
No official prerequisites, but familiarity with basic geometry and mathematics is required.
One helpful additional skill and software is SketchUp, which is a free and very powerful tool for building envelope calculations.
Another useful option is Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, which has a free version with basic but perfectly adequate measuring tools.
You will gain familiarity with common airtightness testing systems and the theory that guides their operation. You will gain an understanding of how ATTMA standards, regulatory standards and project specifications for airtightness are applied in New Zealand and Australia. You will also better understand how test results should be represented and compared, and how they relate to physical processes in real buildings.
The course will culminate on the last day in an open-book knowledge and theory exam conducted online and a test of envelope area calculations. If desired, a live in-person assessment of competency in using a common blower door system such as from The Energy Conservatory or Retrotec may be performed at the training venue, though this can be separately arranged for another day.

To be confident in preparation for the course, each candidate should possess competence in mathematics and geometry. For those who do not use these skills regularly or recently, these sometimes require in-depth review.
Because the operation of blower doors is only reviewed in a general way not specific to manufacturers, candidates should already have familiarity with standard systems by the Energy Conservatory or Retrotec, OR be comfortable learning at a rapid pace.
The entire course will be conducted by GoToMeeting, an interactive and powerful platform for dynamic training. There will be real-time questions and exercises and live video feed to keep you engaged and asking questions. The sessions will be recorded for documentation purposes. We expect your full attention for the entire course and at least occasional appearance by webcam on your device is requested.
